Last Year's Rules
for the 2007
Academic Fair
(these will be revised a bit for 2008)

Participation:

  • The Academic Fair is open to all Irving School students in grades Kindergarten through 5th and to special education students.

  • Students may work alone or in groups.

  • All participants must complete a registration form.  Go here to see this year's form

Projects:

  • All projects must be supervised by an adult (parent or guardian, or other adult whom they choose).

  • Projects may not include experiments on living vertebrate animals (District 97 rule).

  • Some teachers may assign Academic Fair projects to their students.  These students should check with their teachers to be sure they are meeting all class requirements.

Presentations:

  • Presentations will be displayed on a table space about 4 feet wide and 3 1/2 feet deep.  (Go to this page to see some examples.)

  • Written reports are optional (unless requested by your teacher).

  • On the day of the fair, presentations must be set up and ready to go by 12 noon.  Most participants will bring their projects to school that morning.  If that is not possible for your family, please contact Eric Gyllenhaal as soon as possible.

  • On the evening of the fair, participants will stand at their presentation from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. to talk with visitors.

  • Presentations may not use open flames (District 97 rule).

  • Presentations may not use running water.

  • Living animals may not be brought to the fair (District 97 rule).

  • Students who require electrical power for their presentation must contact the parent organizers by April 7, 2007, to discuss their plans.

The presentations will not but judged.  All participants will receive a certificate recognizing their accomplishments.
